19th August 2024 – Juba, South Sudan, The Health Ministry met with the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) to strengthen Public Health in South Sudan.

The Minister of Health, Hon. Yolanda Awel Deng met with Dr. Mazyanga Lucy Mazaba, the Director of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre.

 

The meeting was all about partnership to enhance the Public Health Laboratory and Public Health Institute sector in the Country to ensure that health challenges are addressed effectively and efficiently, through proper functional emergency operations centers.

 

According to Hon. Awel, the national Minister of Health in the Republic of South Sudan, the partnership holds the promise of enhanced public health capabilities that could significantly improve the quality of care available in Eastern Africa. She added that the Ministry of Health and Africa CDC's partnership is a testament to their commitment to creating a healthier future for all in the region, particularly in South Sudan.

 

Dr. Lucy appreciate the already existing cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Africa CDC and commence on how they will expand and double their support through Public Health Institute.

 

Minister Yolanda Awel further stated that health challenges often do not recognize borders; therefore, a unified approach is necessary to combat diseases and improve health outcomes by working together through the sharing of knowledge, technologies, and best practices. 

 

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is a specialized agency of the African Union, established to support public health initiatives and strengthen the capacities of Countries on the African Continent.
