𝐉𝐮𝐛𝐚| 𝐌𝐨𝐇, 𝟏 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 - Juba Teaching Hospital Modernization Reaches Key Milestone
Juba, South Sudan – The National Ministry of Health today celebrated a significant step forward in the modernization and expansion of Juba Teaching Hospital with a topping-out ceremony, marking the completion of the structural phase two of the building. The ceremony, held at Juba Teaching Hospital, was attended by the Honorable Minister of Health, Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial, and the Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, H.E. Ma Qiang, alongside other senior government officials.
Initiated in July last year under a cooperation agreement with China, Phase Two of the Juba Teaching Hospital's modernization and expansion is on track for completion in mid-2027. This ambitious project will introduce a six-block complex to the hospital, significantly enhancing its capacity and range of services. The new facilities will include:
- A specialist outpatient department
- Inpatient wards
- Pediatric facilities
- Surgery units
- Imaging and X-ray labs
- A technology department
- Operating theatres
- An infectious diseases department
- A new administration building
This expansion is set to revolutionize healthcare provision in South Sudan, offering modern facilities and specialized services to its citizens.
During the ceremony, Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial, Minister of Health for the Republic of South Sudan, warmly praised China's unwavering support in the healthcare sector. She highlighted past collaborations, including the Clement Umboro Bridge in Wau, and acknowledged the valuable contributions of Chinese medical professionals in the country. "I am ready to work with all stakeholders, especially Juba Teaching Hospital and our friends from China, to realize our healthcare aspirations," Minister Sarah stated, emphasizing the Ministry's commitment to collaborative efforts.
Chinese Ambassador H.E. Ma Qiang underscored the vital role Juba Teaching Hospital plays in delivering high-quality medical services and facilitating medical technology training in South Sudan. He emphasized the spirit of partnership, quoting the proverb: "If you want to go fast, walk alone. If you want to go far, walk together."
"Cooperation is long-lasting and promising. With determination, let us move forward hand in hand to jointly create a bright future for China and South Sudan through our friendly collaboration," Ambassador Qiang affirmed, highlighting the shared vision for progress.
