Juba | 28 October 2025 — Ministry of Health Strengthens Partnership to Address Central Equatoria State Health Challenges

The Ministry of Health (MoH), Republic of South Sudan, is intensifying its efforts to improve public health services and regulatory oversight following a high-level meeting between the National Minister of Health, Honorable Sarah Cleto Rial, and the Central Equatoria State Minister of Health, Honorable Najwa Juma Mursal.

The productive morning meeting focused on key health challenges facing Central Equatoria State, emphasizing a renewed commitment to addressing issues that directly impact the well-being of the diverse population, particularly in the capital, Juba.

Addressing Critical Health and Safety Concerns

The two Ministers addressed significant public health concerns, namely the alarming rates of drug misuse and the prevalence of traffic-related accidents within the state. These issues require a multi-sectoral approach, and the Ministry of Health is committed to leading the health response.

  • Drug Misuse: The discussion highlighted the need for stronger control over the supply and use of pharmaceuticals to curb misuse and protect citizens from harmful substances.
  • Traffic Accidents: Traffic-related injuries place a significant burden on health facilities, and the Ministry will work with relevant stakeholders to support prevention efforts and ensure prompt, quality medical care for victims.

Enhanced Oversight and Regulation of Healthcare

In response to the growing and diverse demand for healthcare in Juba, Minister Cleto Rial announced a crucial initiative: a comprehensive plan to inspect healthcare facilities across the capital. This action is paramount to ensuring that all residents, in the largest city, have access to high-quality, safe, and regulated medical services.

The Minister further stressed the critical importance of regulating pharmaceutical procurement and private healthcare facilities. Strict oversight in these areas is essential to ensure transparency, accountability, and the provision of genuine, safe medicines and services across the entire health system.

Commendation for Cholera Management

The National Minister of Health extended her sincere commendation to the Central Equatoria State health leadership for the successful management of recent cholera outbreaks. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of strong collaboration, surveillance, and rapid response mechanisms put in place by the state and national teams.

This strategic meeting reaffirms the Ministry of Health’s dedication to a #healthysouthsudan and its goal of achieving #UniversalHealthCoverage through strong #womenleadership and strategic partnership.
