Community Champion Duop Riak Gatluak Drives Health Awareness in Rubkona County
The Ministry of Health (MoH) is proud to highlight the tireless efforts of our dedicated field staff, who are the backbone of our health system transformation across the country.
At the Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) in Rubkona County, Unity State—a vital facility serving nearly 100,000 women and children under the government-led Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP)—stands a true community hero: Duop Riak Gatluak.
For over two years, Duop Riak, the Community Mobilizer and SBC (Social and Behavior Change) Focal Person for the County, has been the essential link ensuring that life-saving health messages reach every family. He has fearlessly led crucial awareness campaigns and community engagement initiatives on vital public health concerns, including:
- Cholera outbreaks
- Routine immunization for children and pregnant women
"I see it as the best way I can give back to my community," says Duop, whose passion for public service fuels his work.
Duop's dedication is even more remarkable considering the challenges he faces daily: covering long distances, overcoming staff shortages, and navigating areas worsened by floods and poor transport. His perseverance is a powerful demonstration of the MoH's commitment to the well-being of all South Sudanese citizens.
Strengthening Healthcare Nationwide
The HSTP, a government project funded by a consortium of donors, is actively strengthening the national health system and expanding critical services to 816 facilities nationwide.
The Ministry of Health extends a special thank you to our valued partners, including UNICEF South Sudan, WHO - Republic of South Sudan, and our implementing partners. Their commitment and collaboration make the crucial work of colleagues like Duop possible, proving that a resilient health system is a shared achievement.
