The Ministry of Health today achieved a significant milestone in its journey toward strengthening the national healthcare system as the Minister of Health, Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial, officially opened the First Annual Scientific Conference of the Association of Surgeons of South Sudan (ASOSS).

The pivotal conference is being held under the timely theme: "Surgical Practice in South Sudan: Current realities and Future Aspirations."

Collaboration to Drive Policy and System Reform

The conference’s core objective is to promote vital surgical policy and system integration. This concentrated effort is a crucial step forward for the nation, positioning it to develop a comprehensive National Surgical, Obstetric, and Anaesthesia Plan (NSOAP).

The NSOAP is essential for formalizing, standardizing, and improving surgical, obstetrics, and anaesthesia care across South Sudan, ensuring equitable access to high-quality services for all citizens.

A Call for Evidence-Based Collaboration

“This is not just a meeting of doctors; it is a coming together of dedicated professionals to build a stronger, healthier future for all South Sudanese,” Minister Sarah stated.

She urged all specialty groups, including ASOSS, to actively share evidence-based findings and data with the Ministry. This vital information will be the foundation for creating realistic, relevant, and impactful policies that will successfully improve healthcare delivery across the country.
