Strengthening Health Systems: Undersecretary Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baime Launches National Malaria Prevention Campaign in Yambio
YAMBIO | Friday, February 27, 2026 — In a significant move toward eliminating malaria and enhancing regional healthcare, the Undersecretary of the National Ministry of Health, Hon. Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baime, arrived in Yambio, Western Equatoria State, to lead a high-level delegation on a mission of vital public health importance.
The delegation was greeted with a warm reception from State Health officials and frontline healthcare workers, marking the beginning of a multi-day engagement focused on resource deployment and inter-governmental collaboration.
The primary objective of the Undersecretary’s visit is to officiate the grand opening sessions for the National Distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs).
Malaria remains one of the leading causes of morbidity in South Sudan. The distribution of these treated nets is a cornerstone of the Ministry’s strategy to reduce transmission rates and protect vulnerable populations, particularly children and pregnant women, from vector-borne diseases.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
- Grand Opening of LLIN Distribution: Launching the rollout of life-saving mosquito nets across Western Equatoria.
- Strengthening Partnerships: Promoting synergy between the National Ministry and State-level health departments.
- Resource Mobilization: Ensuring vital medical supplies reach the communities that need them most.
During his mission, Hon. Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baime paid a courtesy visit to the residence of the newly appointed Governor of Western Equatoria, H.E. Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa.
The Undersecretary formally congratulated the Governor on his new appointment and engaged in a productive dialogue regarding the state’s healthcare landscape. Dr. Baime reaffirmed the National Ministry’s commitment to strengthening health infrastructure and supporting the Governor’s vision for a healthier Western Equatoria.
"This visit underscores the Government’s unwavering dedication to improving health services and deploying the resources necessary to combat disease and improve the quality of life for all our citizens." — Hon. Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baime
This mission represents a proactive step in the Ministry's broader "Health for All" agenda. By combining direct intervention—like the LLIN distribution—with strong political collaboration, the Ministry of Health continues to build a resilient health system capable of protecting every South Sudanese citizen.
