Juba | 04 June 2025 – Ministry of Health Actively Engages in High-Level Discussions to Combat Cholera in Africa
The Ministry of Health, South Sudan, proudly announces its active participation in the Emergency High-level Presidential Meeting focused on the ongoing Cholera Outbreak in Africa. This crucial virtual gathering, held this afternoon, aimed to forge a unified front and establish concrete strategies to contain and ultimately eradicate cholera across the continent.
The meeting brought together representatives from twenty African heads of state and government, underscoring the severe urgency and widespread impact of the outbreak. South Sudan's commitment to this vital cause was strongly represented by H.E. Josephine Joseph Lago, Vice President for the Services Cluster, who stood in for H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic.
Discussions at the high-level meeting centered on reaffirming collective commitment and charting a clear path forward. The deliberations culminated in a series of critical calls to action, designed to bolster the continent's response to cholera. These include:
- Establishing a Continental Incident Management System: To streamline and coordinate responses across borders.
- Strengthening Cross-Border Coordination: To ensure a harmonized approach in controlling the spread of the disease between neighboring countries.
- Mobilizing Sustainable Resources: To secure the necessary funding and support for long-term cholera prevention and response efforts.
- Expediting the Development of Local Vaccine Manufacturing Capabilities: To enhance Africa's self-sufficiency in producing essential cholera vaccines.
The Ministry of Health, South Sudan, remains steadfast in its dedication to protecting the health and well-being of its citizens and working collaboratively with regional partners to overcome the challenges posed by cholera.
