JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN – June 20, 2025 – South Sudan to Host Landmark East Africa Health Scientific Conference Next Week
The Ministry of Health, Republic of South Sudan, is proud to announce that the nation is set to host the 10th East Africa Health Scientific Conference from June 25th to 27th, 2025. This significant regional event will take place at the Pyramid Continental Hotel in Juba and is poised to address critical health priorities, ultimately advancing the East African Region's health agenda towards achieving global targets.
The conference, officially announced today by Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial, Minister of Health - Republic of South Sudan, will bring together a distinguished assembly of leaders and experts. Expected attendees include Ministers of Health and East African Community (EAC) Affairs, senior dignitaries from EAC organs, academicians, health professionals, students, and international experts representing all eight EAC Partner States. The Ministry is particularly honored that H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, will grace the event as the esteemed Guest of Honour.
This biennial conference, which rotates among EAC member states, serves as a vital platform for fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening regional cooperation in health, aligning with the principles outlined in Article 118 of the Treaty establishing the EAC.
A remarkable 218 abstracts have been accepted for presentation, demonstrating the depth and breadth of regional health research. Notably, 78 of these submissions originate from South Sudan, underscoring the nation's growing contribution to regional health science and its commitment to evidence-based health solutions. All accepted abstracts will be compiled into a valuable "Book of Abstracts" for future reference and dissemination.
Over the three-day event, discussions will encompass a wide array of health-related topics under various thematic areas and sub-themes. Key areas of focus include food security, safe water, air-borne and zoonotic diseases, environmental hazards, cross-border transmissions, traffic accidents, and the crucial regulation of food and drugs. A central focus will also be placed on the vital role of the education sector in building a robust knowledge base essential for future health advancements across the region.
Minister Sarah cleto Rial strongly encouraged all invitees, with a special emphasis on young university students, to participate actively in the conference. She highlighted the event as an invaluable opportunity to interact with leading regional experts, learn from their diverse experiences, and gain inspiration for future careers within the health sector.
Having accepted the torch to host this 10th conference during the closing ceremony of the 9th conference in Rwanda, South Sudan is fully prepared to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to improving health outcomes and fostering collaborative solutions across the East African Community.
